BGN welcomes its first member in the Balkans
At a regional meeting of BGN members held today in Vienna, we were delighted to meet and to admit Aldo I Paic, based in Zagreb in Croatia, as our first member in the Balkans.
At a regional meeting of BGN members held today in Vienna, we were delighted to meet and to admit Aldo I Paic, based in Zagreb in Croatia, as our first member in the Balkans.
The Senior Partner, Marinko Paic is Croatia’s most experienced insolvency administrator. He has been involved in many major cases in the region, two of which will be described in detail in the January 2007 edition of the Case Law Alert, which can be downloaded at www.eir-database.com.
Croatia is the 39th largest exporter of commercial and other services in the world, based on World Trade Organization figures for 2005. As such it has strong trading links with many other countries, both in the region such as Hungary and Austria, and worldwide, so BGN is please to have established such a good link.
BGN members are already involved regional cross-border insolvency cases, including the first between Germany and Serbia and another between Hungary and Croatia.
We plan to expand our representation in the Balkans in the future. Our commitment to the region is demonstrated by our involvement with INSOL Europe’s forthcoming conference in May 2007 in Belgrade, of which BGN will be the Main Sponsor and at which a number of BGN members will be speakers.

“With the expansion of Europe, the Balkans is no longer a region that can be ignored. We believe that there will be more and more cross-border cases to follow the ones where BGN member are already acting.
BGN intends to play a proactive role in assignments in the region, as well as education and training initiatives which we hope will help to speed up the development of sufficient professional capacity to deal with struggling businesses across the Balkans.
